Youth Speakers Bureau

Welcome to the inaugural Learn and Serve America National Youth Speakers Bureau (YSB)!

 What is the YSB?
The national Learn and Serve America Youth Speakers Bureau (YSB) promotes youth voice within Learn and Serve and provides youth with an opportunity to speak publicly about the positive effects service-learning can have on youth, institutions, and communities.
See the Youth Speakers Bureau Hot Topic.

 Who are the YSB Participants?
Young people from across the country who have been identified as local service-learning champions already engaged in public speaking via Youth Advisory Boards, Speakers Bureaus, Ambassador Programs, or simply as individual students sharing the story of the positive changes they are making through service-learning. All YSB participants are either currently enrolled at or graduates of schools & organizations funded by Learn and Serve America.

How do the YSB Particpants fulfill their role?
YSB Participants receive on-line training from CNCS Public Affairs and continue to develop local speaking engagements with audiences such as Student Government Bodies, School Assemblies, Local Chambers of Commerce, Boards of Education, City /County/ State Officials, Regional radio and/or TV stations, etc. Each YSB Participant also has a designated "Grantee Mentor" who is a teacher or staff member school/organization funded by Learn and Serve America. YSB Participants communicate with each other and with mentors via regular conference calls and keep record of their speaking engagements via a password-protected, social networking website. During the pilot year (2007-2008) many details related to the YSB roles and responsibilities will evolve and be established for future cohorts. It is expected that YSB participants will complete a one-year term and perhaps serve as leaders/mentors for a new cohort in 2008-2009.

The 2007-2008 YSB is still in development!
Additional participant biographies and details will be included on this site in the coming months.  For more information about the youth participants listed below and the YSB development, please contact us!
