United We Serve
"United We Serve" is a nationwide service initiative that will help meet growing social needs resulting from the economic downturn. With the knowledge that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things when given the proper tools, President Obama is asking us to come together to help lay a new foundation for our country. From June 22 to September 11, United We Serve will begin to engage Americans from coast to coast in addressing community needs in education, health, energy and the environment, and community renewal. United We Serve begins with 81 days of service but will grow into a sustained, collaborative and focused effort to promote service as a way of life for all Americans.
Through the serve.gov website you can search for volunteer opportunities, register your project and recruit volunteers, or create your own project using toolkits on education, health, community renewal, energy and the environment, or any other project that meets the needs of YOUR community. You also have the opportunity to share your story of service with others around the country.
